Starting a HeartMath Support Group
We recommend you get some like-minded people together and read, discuss and practice the techniques and concepts in HeartMath books. Read as much or as little as you like. Keep the meetings to a maximum of two hours.
Most groups consist of two to eight people. If you want your group to be formal, here is a simple meeting model we recommend:
• Begin with a little social time -10 to 20 minutes.
• Sit down and have a moment of silence or use a HeartMath technique. Later, you may want to do Heart Lock-Ins for 5 to 15 minutes.
• Read and discuss a few pages of the Transforming Anger, Transforming Stress or Transforming Anxiety books or your favorite HeartMath book. Pick a good reader and have him or her read aloud from the book. Discuss the content, ask lots of open-ended questions and be open and nonjudgmental when listening to responses to questions.
• Have individuals give testimonials/real life situations of how the HeartMath concepts, “The Math,” apply to their lives.
• From the second week forward, the format should be the same, except for one thing: Before the reading, allow time to discuss what group members recall from the previous meeting.
