Finding a positive feeling while practicing techniques
It can be difficult for some adults and older students to find something to appreciate, especially if they have very active minds, or in a few cases when someone has experienced trauma. When students or others can't find something to appreciate, there are a couple of things they can do:
Young people, for example can immerse themselves in something they are very interested in such as video games or sports. Let them imagine they are playing very well and that they can take their game to the next level. If they have iPods or mp3 players they could imagine themselves listening to their favorite music, while planning the next song to download. You can have them improvise by imaging anything in which they are interested. We have found most people can find something to appreciate.
